    Hi Professor Dave!

    I have wondered why it is five sigmas in physics and 3 sigmas (95% CI)in Econometrics and it would be interesting to hear your view on this issue.

      It can be whatever you decide to choose - quite arbitrary. And it's not always 3 sigmas in econometrics.
